Because Vietnam runs from the tropical south to the sub-tropical north, there's no single best month — there's a best month for where you want to go. The good news: somewhere in Vietnam is always in season.
Northern Vietnam (Hanoi, Halong, Sapa)
Spring (March–April) and autumn (September–November) are ideal — mild, dry, and clear, perfect for cruising Halong Bay and trekking Sapa. Winters (December–February) can be cool and misty in the mountains; summers are hot and humid with afternoon downpours.
Central Vietnam (Hoi An, Hue, Da Nang)
February to August is dry and beach-friendly. Avoid October–November, the wettest months, when Hoi An occasionally floods.
Southern Vietnam (Saigon, Mekong, Phu Quoc)
Warm year-round. The dry season (December–April) is the most comfortable; the wet season brings short, heavy afternoon showers rather than all-day rain.
